CRT Not loading completely

Mmk, so my problem today is that my semi-old CRT is not working....well it sorta is. when I plug it in and start up the comp, I see the BIOS load, then the XP Loading screen then that finishes, then the screen goes black, and it sits there. Its not the computer, 'cause it works with my other one.
Any help would be greatly appreciated ;)

Try booting in safe mode and see if the desktop comes up. You can lower the refresh rate by going into the advanced section of the display settings. If you can right click on the desktop there it will save going through the control panel. Once there try the 60hz setting.

Alright, Thanks for the help...I'll try these in the morning.
I'll edit this post and let ya' know what I uncover

Your probably trying to run at a higher resolution/Hz setting than your older CRT supports...

that's what i think it is too. several years ago, i had my old pc in the shop trying to get some extra ram they sold me to work in the pc they sold me. i got a phone call about an hour after i left it telling me they couldn't even get my computer to turn on.

i rushed over there, knowing it worked when i left it, and they had it on one of the oldest crt's i've ever seen. wouldn't be surprised if it had tubes in it, lol.

i went in and changed the resolution and it was fine. the memory wouldn't work though. i got a refund and never went back.

if that incident never occurred, i wouldn't be building pc's today. thanks god for incompetance. :P

The problem when in safe mode is that you are at 640x480 there. You can't lower the screen resolution since that is not available. Lowering the refresh rate to the minimum of 60hz gives you the chance to get to a normal desktop and make the adjustment rather fast to see this corrected.

But seeing the screen goe black mey not be the fault of the monitor itself if something else is preventing Windows from starting normally. That's another thing to consider there.

Mmk, so I have it hooked up and its working...to a certian extent. now my problem is that it is so blurry that I'm seeing double basiclly, and I can't read any text...so I'm sorry for any spelling mistakes, I'll be switching back to my LCD so I can read any replies :D

When you are on the lcd then lower the resolution from there. If your picture is spotless on the lcd the problem more then likely is a flaky monitor on the way out. It's probably time to dump it anyways.
