Anyhoo, since Crysis is a new release, getting info about glitches is somewhat limited. My dilemma is this... that I have noticed an issue surface in the blogs about low FPS in high end systems such as my own. They fail to explain the circumstances behind it.
NOW, when I initially installed Crysis, I went to the options in the main menu. I adjusted the resolution to 1680x1050 corresponding to my 21" monitor. Then noticed the optimal settings button in graphics submenu. I pressed it and the game came back setting all the graphics to very high. I was even bold enough to set the AA to 16xQ. I then started the game and during the beginning from the in-plane story, to the drop, to the plop in the water, to the swim to the beach, the graphics were phenomenal and then it simply crashed after about 5 seconds.
Afterwards I tried to load Crysis again and was struck by the 'half-screen' mouse cursor issue which I've also read in blogs. The mouse cursor would only float over half of the right side of the screen.
After doing a little online research, I read about disabling my Norton 360. Something I should have done in the first place but wanted to see if it would work while enabled. That seemed to help get rid of the mouse cursor problem.
The next time I tried to start Crysis I noticed an audio stuttering. Something else I had seen in the blogs. I tried to selectively eliminate the problem with trial and error, going to the point of eliminating all actively running background processes with no luck. I’ve read that onboard OEM soundcards suck up a lot of CPU power. I’ve considered a buying Soundblaster PCI card anyway.
Over the course of a day messing with it, I noticed that on some occasions, I could revert back to very high settings and the game would work great. After a few seconds the game would revert back to like 2-3 FPS. During gameplay I would tune the graphical options down lower and lower. At 800x600 resolution and low settings it would still visually stutter.
When helpful forumgoers look at this post, don’t go saying oh you can’t play it at those settings. My response to them is baloney. Reason being is that I have read in more than one blog of PC gamers that have the same CPU and GPU as me, running at very high settings, with the same resolution ( if not higher) without any problems. I also remind those people that my PC EXCEEDS not only the minimum system requirements, but also the RECOMMENDED system requirements. I know my PC can handle it no problem hearing from other people.
I’m asking for advice from fellow bloggers as to how to find a resource conflict that’s slowing the game! That audio stutter must have something to do with it. If anyone has found out that their Logitech mouse, gaming keyboard, joystick, or Quickcam software is possibly screwing up Crysis, please pass it along because I’ll write to Electronic Arts so they put that in a patch for sure.
