Dark Souls PC Version

I'm making this thread to warn people to avoid this game for the time being. This has got to be one of the worst console to PC ports I have ever seen. Using PC controls is borderline useless. The only way to play it is to use an external game controller. I cannot get my PS3 controller to work, though. From what I read, Xbox 360 controllers work without much configuration. I suppose by changing a lot of the key maps, it would help the keyboard and mouse, but the main thing for me is that the camera moves as if controlled by a joystick. There was no compensation for this at all. So, using a mouse is rather difficult.

Also, the game can only run at max 720p, instead of full HD. Luckily, someone has already released a mod to fix this, but the fact that it was released in this condition at all is just ridiculous. The game can also only run at 30 FPS.

I held off buying the PS3 version when I heard a PC one was being released. I'm really disappointed in my choice.

I really hope the developers patch the major issues with this release.

And to add insult to injury, they used GFWL for their authentication. I don't even know what to say about that..

EDIT: After finally getting my PS3 controller to work, I can play the game. Once you get to a playable point the game is awesome. I'm still pretty upset of the quality of this release. They should have kept their September release date.

Hey troncoso, There is a fix out there for the 720p issue i was reading it on giant bomb or kotaku, http://www.vg247.com/2012/08/24/dark-souls-fan-offers-unofficial-resolution-mod/

That may help in terms of res, but iv read the same as what your saying so i would have avoided it if i didnt alredy lay it to the way side as something im not really interested in. :P

Yeah i was considering getting it, but checked forums and apparently its a horrendous console port. Theres nothing i hate more than console ports so i won't be getting it!

I know there is a fix for that. I applied it before even playing the game. Honestly, it's a great game. It gives you that kind of challenge you don't find anymore in other video games. Like, you have to develop skill to progress through the story. There is no hand-holding or easy modes.

My only gripe is how poorly they went about bringing it to the PC.

That's a shame. I played it a ton on PS3. It's a great game. It really brought me back to the games of old. Where difficulty was high and that sense of making it a little further gave a thrill.

The atmosphere is Dark and Demon Souls is some of the best. Leaving notes and such for people behind you and reading the hints from those who game before added a great dynamic.

I don't get why the PC port didn't get a lot of love. It did seem like they were warning that not much was going to be done to it.

Sounds more like a driver issue, I've had that happen before.
Did you use DS3 tools to get your PS3 controller to work?

I had to uninstall any other controller drivers on my computer to fix the "moving camera".

Man, you guys got pay more attention. Haha. I got it working using DS3 tools. The issue was you have to select Xbox emulator before starting the game. The one thing I didn't read anywhere was that you had to press the pink "enable" again after selecting it.

Blasphemy. Dark souls looks alot better on pc and you definitely need a controller due to the precision of dodging attacks that a kb and mouse cannot provide. My only gripe is that it runs in 30 fps, but thats not a big deal. Like Carl says on family guy, "its all about the quest dude"

I like it a lot, Took me a while to figure how to use the ps3 controller to work... Still finding it hard to summon people because of all the failures.
