DiRT 3 Questions

I've rented out DiRT 3 from Tesco DVD for my Xbox 360 - love the game, so I've decided I'd like to buy it. However, I'd rather play the game on the PC than my Xbox because I think the graphics will be better on the PC, is this likely to be true? Also, the PC version is much cheaper, less than half the price of the X360 version, ad I can pick up an Xbox 360 controller for the PC for about £17 to make playing the game easier.

So my questions are:
1. Is an EVGA GeForce GTS 450 SC 1GB graphics card good enough for this game? I'd like to play the game at high on a 24" monitor without lag. I'm confident my CPU and RAM are good enough (i5 760 + 8GB DDR3). The minimum requirements state you need at least an 8600 and they recommend a GTX 280 - these are old cards right?

2. Does DiRT 3 work with an Xbox 360 controller for the PC does anybody know? I'd like to play the game using one of these.

Thank you!

I don't know if your system will play it on high. I would think that medium would be attainable. I benched Dirt 3 on my machine and I was getting 45+ on ultra. It seems to be a bit more demanding than Dirt 2 was.

The GTX 280 is a generation older but it will be faster than the 450 that you have.

Yeah, even the GTX 275 is faster. How does the game look on medium settings? I'd like to be playable but look good.

I don't really know for sure. I'll boot over from Linux and give it a go to see how it looks.

I was looking over some benches of the GTS 450 and it was getting ~33 FPS in Dirt 2 Maxed at 1920x1200. Seems like it might be a better performing card than what I was thinking.

If you could let me know how it looks on medium that would be a real help - thank you! 1920x1080 is my resolution and 33 FPS isn't too bad I guess. Could always run it at a slightly lower resolution I guess.

Many thanks for the info and the screenshot! I could buy the game and then play around with the settings, after all, the game is only a tenner from Amazon. I've had a look on the internet and discovered that people using the Xbox 360 controller for Windows have had issues with using it on DiRT 3 - do you use a controller to play your game, is it working all right? Because I don't want to spend the money on the game and the controller, then discover it doesn't work, when I could spend a bit more and get the game for my Xbox 360 knowing that it will work perfectly. Thanks.

I'm using the Wired 360 for windows controller and it works perfectly. I didn't even have to map the buttons. Just make sure that you have it plugged in before you boot the game.

Excellent, that was the answer I was hoping to hear! I will play the game on the Xbox 360 a little more, obviously because I'm renting it I'll have to send it back at some point, but hopefully I can then go and buy the game and the controller for the PC! Thank you for the all and help information, and fast responses!
