Do I HAVE to install Google Chrome???

Hi all

I've recently got a new PC and had an older version of Google earth on the old one. In trying to reinstall google earth, I downloaded this little installer here.

However, when I click on it and the installer starts running it insists it is installing "Google Earth with Google Chrome Installer". I really don't want Google Chrome, so cancelled the installation immediately. Is it not possible to download Earth without Chrome?

Thanks for reading.

Edit : Scratch that - there was a tick box I didn't read. Doh!!!!!

On the page you downloaded it from it gives you the option to install Google Chrome as an extra.. Un-tick the box to download Google Chrome and then download Google Earth always read for before you download something aswell this is what makes people vinerable to virus attacks.

If you haven't tried Chrome, you should, it's nice. I've used IE for years and finally tried Chrome recently and it is much nicer to use.

Thanks for the response guys.

When Chrome first came out, I thought "ooh those nice people at Google are making more free software for me. I can bin off MS Explorer, and uninstall FireFox (which I am happy with) and use this nice, small, unbloated program".

Then I heard about this, and looked into it a little more : we're not all gullible enough to believe that Google make free software available for the good of mankind, and given their recent admission about the huge amount of information Google keep about your average internet surfer, I must admit it makes me very twitchy.

Am I being unnecessarily uneasy?

If your happy with Firefox there is no reason for change. In my opinion you get about .8 of a second faster load times than Firefox. I used Google Chrome then went back to Firefox.

As for Google and your information theres alot eing said at the moment and Google have got private data off people but i think they will learn from there mistakes hopefully and not do it again.

I use FireFox at home and never had the need to use Chrome or IE. At work, working on a Mac, I use Safari and from time to time FireFox.
