Do those Internet Boost software's really work?

There are literally TONS of those Internet boosting software's out there. Are the just scams or are they for real? they say stuff like, "Boosts your Internet up to 350%!" And I don't believe them. They have there own little Internet speed-o-meter and it said I had a downstream of 150 kbps. But when I went to a web site designed to tell you if your ISP is cheating you from speed (web site was non profit and did not offer Internet services) And it gave me 250 kbps (I did this a few times). Can I really believe them?

For dialup connections, they can speed up web page loading, but as far as actual down/upload speeds...no they do nothing. They simply compress things like pictures and media, load the rest of the page first, it appears as if the whole page is loading "faster". It's essentailly just a trick, and definetly doesn't give you faster internet.

Yeah, it just compresses the images, making them lower quality, hence the faster loading... I tried the "aliant dialup accelerator' once. Hah. :(

most of them don't work. they just tweak little settings that with enough knowledge, you can do yourself if you have the courage. if this is for dial up, there are a few that gives you their so-call "accelerator" if you sign up with them.. other than that.. if your on broadband.. your pretty much set already.
