DX10 vs. PS3

hey

i was gonna get a ps3 like two days ago when something that my friend said struck me. my friend said that ps3 does not support dx10 and dx10 is way better graphics than ps3. this sort of changed my mind cuz i really wanted a top gaming system thats like totally "next gen". can you guys help explain the different and which would be a better buy? ps3? or upgrading comp to dx10 and wait for assassin's creed n buy bioshock

btw, if you support pc, please tell me some of the options for upgrading.
my specs are:
E6300
Ati X800XL
2GB OCZ Platinum PC-6400 REV 2
250GB Seagate HD
Gigabyte DS3

the ps3 would be a better value for your $, but i think its possible to achieve better graphics with the right pc build for sure.
 
It depends. If you buy a console it will last for another 3-4 years or so, and the graphics will only continue to get better, even in lack of DX10. Then again if you get a good dx10 card instead you will be able to get games with graphics better than that of a console, like Crysis. The multi-platform games will also look better on the PC. But even a 8800gtx will probably be obsolete sometime in the next 2 years, meaning you'll have to dole out even more money for an entire PC upgrade, probably a grand or so.

PC gaming is much more expensive, but has it's rewards. Console gaming is tons more affordable, but is limited. Allowance is crucial, if you're willing to spend alot, for the best experience, get the video card, if not get the console.
 
lion149, may i ask why you would say that? my pc rig isnt that bad...and $549 can get a lot of pc parts

for hermeslyre, thanks for you POV, 2 years for a graphic card is good for me..ill be in university in 2 years, i don't think ill have time to sleep, let alone game... however, pretend i m going to upgrade my pc, how much would u recammend me to spend?

Well, you could get a top of the line GTX for $500. But they've been out for quite awhile and are going to be replaced sooner or later by better Dx10 cards. Same with the 8800gts, though they're cheaper. We're close too, but still acouple months away, the new cards. Waiting that long would be beyond patience, So I recommend getting a GTX or GTS from EVGA. They have a "step-up" plan that allows you to trade in your card, within 90 days, for full credit towards a new one, so if something is released, better, you'll have the advantage. It's not likely, at this point in time, but unless you're able to wait, then I see no other option.
 
Post spec of your PSU, including amperage of +12v.

The e6300 is fine for now, and they overclock well. If you ever see yourself in the need of extra CPU muscle, consider overclocking.
 
if i was in your situation, i would go for a standard GTX and PSU if needed. then in the future you could also up grade to a quad core if needed (by the time that is needed, im sure you will have more options than just the q6600 and q6700). don't forget about Vista if you're still running XP.

best part is you'll have a killer PC :)
 
Well it looks capable of a GTX, it surely meets the recommended Specs. So you do not need to upgrade your PSU to fit a GTX, to your relief. :D

woh woh woh, hermeslyre, your price tags your giving, so not true. a GTX for 500? RIP OFF! $1000 in 2 years? BS. a gaming PC WILL cost a shit load, but there is no reason to exagorate the price. a top of line PC will be $3000 flat with shipping. thats more than you would ever need. but even so, an ultra super clocked is only $595. a GTX shouldn't cost 500! and even so, upgrading is to save money apposed to a new computer totally. gradual upgrading will do. ever so ofter you do this. the average PC gamer upgrades 1 time every 6 months. but if you get top end DX10 card, no need to do that. no need = no upgrade. maybe $500-700 in 2 years, i could no way see $1000. unless your getting from dual to true quad extreme, i dont think so. dont scare the guy. just lower it a little :)

Proof you naysayer! Also in two years his PC will be outdated. The geforce 10 series will likely be out and CPU architecture will be leaps ahead. DDR4 will (possibly) be the mainstay, and apps will require a significantly larger amount of muscle. Oh and we're did you get the $3000 pricetag? From an Alienware website(hehe)? A grand can buy a Q6600, 8800gts, 2Gb's of RAM, etc, etc. For $3000 you can get a QX6800, two Gtx's in SLI, 4Gb's of DDR3, etc. That's not a gaming PC that's a PC owned by someone with too much money to blow. But you could be right on one thing. I'm still running a s939 system. Albeit with a 2.7ghz dual-core and a 7600gt, but I'm still going, brother! :)
 
Newegg is the most trusted of all those sites. I would gladly pay an extra hundred bucks to get fast shipping (not happening from Russia), good customer support (also probably not happening from Russia), Working RMA, etc. But still, those are pretty good prices. Those are definitely a consideration for those in the market, long as they do their HW on the sites.
