System specs e6600 overclocked 3.6, 8800gtx, 2gb of ram, xfi sound card,750 watt power supply, swiftech watercooling cpu gpu, vista 32 bit.

I play the flight simulator with extremely dense scenery and resolution at 1600 by 1280. I have got error message when i am flying in real populated places" not enough memory". My question is the memory that they are refering to is ram or gpu memory.

Easy to find out, Alt-tab or Ctrl-alt-del out of game and bring up the task manager. If it shows that FMX is using more RAM than you physically have then it's system memory. But I'm sure it's VRAM, It's actually not that big a deal if you are getting good FPS, All that will happen is that geometry and textures will be stored on the System RAM and reduce FPS because of the extra time it need to load the info off the RAM onto the screen. The amount FPS is reduced varies but I've never had it go so low I cannot play satisfactorily.
