I was just browsing newegg and came upon the FX-55. It's a sale that ends tomorrow. You get the CPU and a 250gb Seagate SATAII hard drive for free with it. Right now I have an A64 3500+ Clawhammer. Do you think it is a good deal for an upgrade? I already have a good hs+fan...

hmm... thats tempting....
id be inclined to go with a core 2 duo though lol
its a good deal if you definitely arent overclocking i guess...
personally id keep the 3500+ or get a core 2 duo. an upgrade of 200mhz and 512kb of cache isnt that huge.

lol, 200MHz more speed twice the cache and UNLOCKED multipliers guy... thats why the FX's are great...

if he wants to get a C2D, he'll need a new mobo, CPU, RAM ect...

Exactly. I don't need a C2D cause then I would need practically a new computer. But with the FX I can probably get a really good overclock. Right now I can't go past 2.4ghz with my current CPU.

I just looked at alot of the performance differences between the X2 3800+ and the FX-55 and found out I still can't make up my mind on what is better to get, lol. The FX-55 from newegg turns out to be $125 when you don't count the free hard drive into it. The X2 3800+ is more then $125 though so maybe its a better deal?

pfft, i said you buy it and send it my way, i never said anything about me paying you :P

its a step up from michelle's 3700+

Well, if you need the space I would go with the deal. Though if you don't go with the x2 and overclock that. I know um....was it you Ku-sama that got your x2 3800 up to fx 62 performance. I don't know if it was Ku-sama but you sure can overclock good with it and get it up to 4600 or 4800 speeds.

I never had a 3800+, but i got my 4800+ stable at 3.4GHz (sorry dragon, it wasnt completly stable at 3.5 so i lied but i just found that out)

It does sound like a good deal. If I was still using my Sempron I may go for it myself, since you can either get a free hard drive or a free 939 motherboard.

The 3500+ is 2.2GHz and the FX-55 is 2.6GHz, right? For about 80-90€ you can get a 3500+ Venice E6 and overclock it quite easily to 2.6GHz. Sure it's only got half the L2 cache but it's a pretty good deal.
