Hmm OCZ 700watt PSU EVGA680i mobo any generic cd/dvd drive not sure about monitors, Dell 2407/other brand equivelents on that rig.

There's a huge difference between a $1,000 computer and a $3,000 one...

For about $3k, you could have a Core 2 Extreme QX6700, probably dual 8800GTX's, 4gb RAM, and an excellent mobo. Other parts, such as dual 74gb raptors in RAID 0, case, PSU, speakers, monitor, etc, are a given, I'm just saying that those are the major upgrades to be made with that budget.

With a $2k budget, the processor is toned down to a Core 2 Quad Q6600, and a single 8800GTX or possibly 8800ultra, depending on other parts.

$1k budget, processor is a C2D E6320 or E6420, with a 8800GTS (320mb), or 8600GTS, or 8600GT.

@computermaineack:

Try reading the post rather than the topic, he needs everything from the mouse to the monitor

Maybe I missed something...how does needing a mouse and monitor have anything at all to do with where in the $1k to $3k budget range he is going to spend, and what quality of parts he needs/wants?

I read the post, I always read all the posts in a thread before I post (unless it's a huge thread, like the post your desktop thread). In fact, why don't YOU read MY post entirely, where I mention the parts that he says he needs, such as monitor, speakers, etc.

O RLY? 1120 for 2 8800gtx, 970$ for the QX6700, 270$ for 4 gb of ram,+ mobo, + case, PSU, +monitor, + speakers,+ mouse/kerboard which is an additional 142$, + monitor + os, + hdd.

So before you open your mouth at least check prices without just randomly thinking it'll fit into his budget range

Yeah the 70 dollar mouse is a rip job, you should swap the G15 and the G7 for the MX5000, you would actualy save $30 if you bought the new one and if you got the open box one you would save $52.00 and doing that you would get the better mouse, and also (In my oppinion) you get a better mouse.

Oh and you save a single USB port, either way you should ditch the G7, its just way to expencive.

Kent.

Ahaha he doesn't want piece of crap parts, and you aren't counting the real price, you're putting the items with the price after rebate which won't happen till like what, 1 month after he receives the components?

Nobody would buy cheap ass parts like a mouse for 6$, a 2.1 speakers for 41$, a case that probably wouldn't fit the GTX and if it did it wouldn't have enough air flow, but if you want to dream that somebody is going to spend 1120$( 1060 after mail in rebate) in just 2 graphic cards, and buy such a lame parts as the mentioned above, then you need something to fix your problem

For those pseakers you really dont need an awesome sound card, and it would definately be worth looking into a higher end monitor.

I opted for the 6600 b/c still don't want to break $3k as i still have to think about vista ultimate, a possible monitor upgrade, office 07, etc.

you could go for this one for sound card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102006

for a bigger monitor, may I suggest these:
BenQ 20.1" for $219.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824014105

or this Sceptre 20.1" for $219.99 (its HD ready)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824112003

or for a slightly cheaper Sceptre 20.1" for $199.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824112006

as for Optical Drive, these two looks like a pretty good ones (both are SATA drive)
Samsung w/ Lightscribe
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151141

LITE-ON
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106057

If you don't fancy the LightScribe, the LITE-ON one is good

Hope this helps :)

um..are you guys factoring in shipping cost too? its one thing to say he can buy parts for 3K, but shipping needs to be added to figure the grand total.
