Gaming Entry Level

It would help to know what the specs of your system are and what genres you like to play. Then we can give you recommendations that you can play well on your system.

ok, are you looking for new games, free games, or just FPS games (iirc from your OP)?

Or are you just looking for games in general.

I feel like I'm so behind in current games that a variety of genres of games is what I want to play, so FPS, Fighting (like WWE, Marvel vs Capcom), Racing (like Need for Speed), Adventure, etc.

Oh, and my CPU is an i5-2500k.

well you will get a fine FPS with those specs.
but always depends on what game.
as i get 60FPS on COD4 with my laptop and thats with intelHD crap
but for most other games, i get around 20 fps max. because of the god damn intergrated IntelHD crap

I highly doubt that you get 60GPS in COD4 with intel HD unless you have it set to 800*600 on low with all eye candy off.

As for OP, If you like FPS, I would suggest that you try Combat arms, COD4 (i think its better than MW2), any of the older MOH games, or if you like them the BIA games. You shouldnt have any trouble playing these games at all.

yeah i have anti aliazing or w/e it is off and duall gpu of, as i dont see how in hell im going to have 2 gpus in a laptop and especially this one ;p

there are laptops that use SLI and CF. however, there are no Dual Intel GPUs. You may have a Optimus setup. That is a setup where Intel HD or Intel GMA4500HD is used in basic things, like webbrowsing, or watching a video, but a Nvidia dedicated card, like teh GT555m or GTX460m is used in gaming. That would be a setup that would say Intel HD but give you 60FPS in COD4

I made a thread in Tomshardware's Video Games section and this is what someone said after everything had been decided for gaming:

Hmm...That is a pretty big budget. If you play your cards right, there is no reason why you can't get the 580.

Yeah, I have some thoughts on that.

You ready?

Don't get an SSD.

Why in the hell would you want to do that? Faster load times? Come on, man!

Get the SSD later. For now, put the power where it counts.

And pass on the Hyper 212. You ain't going to be doing no overclocking, at least not if you're smart. You just got into PC gaming. Wanna fry your CPU?

Those two useless items (well, useless for you) are going to set you back about $130. Take that money, and put it on your GPU. Then you will have enough for a 6970, and be well on your way to 580 territory (which should be your goal).

Also, that HDD is a waste of about $30. To hell with the Seagate Barracuda. It's just a name brand 7200RPM HDD - pass on it. Go with the Hitachi 7200RPM HDD. There's ya' another $30, right there. You are getting closer!

you should be able to max or at least get high on 99% of games out there unless your running dual 3D 1080P monitors.

yea man. You have the top performers for GPU and CPU on there. The only way it could get better is SLI, but that's unneeded.

*I could have swore you had a HD6970 earlier today?
