Grand Theft Auto IV Not working and bad FPS?

Hey guys,

Im having some trouble with playing Grand Theft Auto IV which I just bought. First I installed it and updated it to the latest patch (1.0.7.0) but the performance really sucked. Especially when I turned on shadows. Without the shadows the game looks awfull but that was the only way the game was playable.

Now I re-installed it and updated it to version 1.0.4.0. The performance is a lot better not but when I turn on shadows (on low or medium) it looks awfull! You can really see the pixels and the shadows are flickering aswell. I hope someone can help me with this problem. I'm running it on medium settings on 1280x960 screen resolution. This is my hardware:

AMD Athlon X2 250 Dual Core @3.2GHz
Geforce GTS450 1GB Memory
4GB RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

You really need a better cpu. Try turning draw distance/view distance to 1. GTA Iv is very badly coded and also a massive cpu hog. When i had my e6600 i had to play with draw distance at 1.

If you play on a 1080 screen though you many see a performance boost as theres less stress on the gpu. Thats what i used to do when gta was getting me down :P
