Half Life 2, without steam ?

Is there any possible way i can play half life 2 or counterstrike source without steam? I have dial up and its extremely slow and wont update or download what steam needs so i cant play the games.
 
I'm afraid not, best thing you could do is leave your PC connected overnight, once it gets going a night should do it for most of the updates
