Help! Anonymous freezing :|

I've had this problem ever since I built it, it randomly freezes, and i mean randomly!
The screen simply freezes, no power off or anything, and i have to do a manual restart.
Could happen when i first switch on or after several hours. Doesn't matter what applications I'm running or if any at all. My system setup page tells me the cpu is running at 62*C, could that be an issue?
I've tried on-board graphics or graphics cards, no difference.

Well to find out google your processor and find its max temps of other users etc.

I never used it so I don't know.

Also random freezes could be memory or even power issue.

Burn memtest to a CD and test your memory for 2-3 passes (4-5 hours)

Also open your PC up and make sure ALL the power connectors are plugged in...and all the way in. I have had the same issue after I wiggled my 24 pin out by JUST a little bit....enough to power my system but enough it would randomly reboot.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks for your reply twist, well i know it's not memory because i replaced it with what seemed to be better and more compatible than the old RAM thinking that was the problem, no change.
I agree maybe it's power, but theres no power off or anythin, just frozen screen, can that happen?
62*C seems high but not dangerously from the research I've done but i can find no exact measurement from others. It's just that most folks on here seem to run at like around 40*C :S or are they just special situations where people are bragging maybe lol.

Pentium D's do run really hot, sometimes hotter than the P4's. You might want to keep a temp program up and watch as you do things to see how high it gets.

No panic, I got speedfan to work, I've got another post about temp sensor programs not working. Speedfan put me at 40*C idle, not the problem aparently then. I'm going to look into power. Try my dads PSU as mines some annonymous thing.

This computers doing my nut in now! It's not a power problem.

Can a hard drive cause such freezing issues?

Or maybe is my CPU stuffed?

It very well could be your hard drive. Have you done a diagnostic test on it? You can download one from the maker of the hard drive.

it could be your hard drive i know this sounds stupid but have you looked at the wire? i havent had a problem like this exactly but i had one like it and the wire wasent in all the way idk but thats my advice also if its your hard drive im kinda new at this but what does the hard drive have to do with the monitor ither that it gets the data? again stupid question but is your hard drive light on?

Thanks John, Drive passed diagnostics tests.

Leaves 2 things, MoBo or Proccessor.
Unless theres a faulty driver or something softwarey lurking somewhere i cant find.

And thanks 316 I've checked all connections and things we'll see how it pans out, no planning when it can freeze again lol.
