help! only short time to live.

i just spent days trying to my system working again. finally i got to service pack 2 and it downloaded after many tries. until then even after endlessly runny ad-ware, spy ware and anti virus it was always somehow interrupted.
now i can't get on line when i do a system restore to: just before i got service pack 2. i can get on line with this because service pack 2 is not in. when i go to system restore and undo it i get service pack 2 back but can't get on line. sypatico seems to work well but i keep getting 404's. i have adjusted the security settings but to no avail.

There has been a lot of issuses with many people where they have conflicts with SP2. Some people think it's the best thing to happen, some swear to never use it.

Hopefully that's not the case. If I am trying to understand you correctly, you have SP2 installed and you can't get online. If it's not installed then you can.

SP2 updates some of Windows components like the Internet Explorer and the Firewall. At that time, are you refering to the Windows Firewall in your second post? Are you also using Internet Explorer to get online also or something else?
