Help with video card memory

Hai. I recently bought Max Payne 3 for PC and it's not working well. As most of the people know (including me), Max Payne 3 is quite a heavy games to run (high pc requirements). Now; I have a pavilion dv6 laptop with Intel i5 (2,53GHz), 4GB ram, Windows 7 64-bit and an AMD Radeon 5650 HD with 1024 MB.But, apparently that is not enough.

When I fire up the game, it runs slow as hell. During the game it just stammers while loading and sometimes, I even see him pre-render some npc's. In short; it doesnt work. I tried to adjust the graphics settings in the menu but, and here is the big problem, I cant! When I set the textures and qualities to low and the resolution to something low like 1024*600, i try to accept, but then it says: "graphic card memory is exceeded" 207mb/0mb...so...I have 0 MB graphic card memory?! what the ****! It's as if my laptop doesn't see and/or doesn't use the memory in my graphics card (which is 1024MB).

Because I also have an Intel i5 processor, I have integrated Intel HD graphics. So i'm able to switch back and forth from Intel graphics to AMD 5650 HD. Well, i've checked that and all this time it has been set to AMD. So, that's not the problem.

So, the problem is that Max Payne 3 can't see or either doesn't use the memory in my video card.
I really hope someone her has any idea of what is going on and may be able to help me. I would be very grateful.

Ps. sorry for my bad English, I'm Dutch [face_tongue].

First step is to update your video drivers. As new games come out and have conflicts with video cards, the companies (AMD and Nvidia) will release drivers to fix these issues.

GPU, yeah, that was the name I was looking for :p.
Indeed, I already checked if my main GPU was the HD5650. Also, i've tried to install the new driver for my GPU, but after the install, an error comes up saying: "AMD catalyst mobility can't be downloaded because your computer contains incompatible hardware/software. The version of your GPU is not supported.". This is strange, cause i'm 100% sure I installed the proper driver (for the ATI Radeon 5*** cards).

You want to get your drivers from the HP website. Those are specifically tailored for your hardware.

But those are old outdated drivers. The latest driver I can find on hp's website is one from 2010 (version 8.01). But the newest, the one I want, is version 12.4. Why can't I update it than?

HP will probably never update that driver ever. If you can get 12.4 to install correctly, then use it. Not the 8.01 drivers from HP.

I know, thats what i want, but i cant. Somehow when i install version 12.4 with AMD catalyst install manager it installs a few things for 5 seconds and then says its done. But nothing really happened. When i re-install the older version, the installation takes about 2 minutes and after it, it askes to reboot. I reboot, and it has worked.

So apparently HP is blocking the installation of the newer version or something...

are you using the mobile driver?
strike that, you can not use 12.4. from amd directly.
The following notebooks are not compatible with this tool:
Notebooks equipped with switchable graphics
which reinforces my point that intel needs to suck it in laptops.

That is exactly why he has to use the manufacturer drivers. I have the same issue with my laptop (albeit, Dell is a bit better about updating them).
