i just bought half life 2 today, and when i put the disc in to install it, i click next to sign into my steam account, and it says "there is not enough disc space to run steam" wth does that mean? i have 100gb of free space........................... help? thanks

geeze, how much disc space they want me to free up?! i deleted ghost recon 2 and some other things...and it still says it...

It's an error, check the support site like PCeye suggested. freeing up more space will have no effect in this situation.

It usually a software glitch that will see that type of error. Another thing often seen that wouldn't effect you there would be the need to upgrade the catalyst on an ATI card. There are however two options when going to install with one being the play online and the other being the full install to the drive.

You still have to log onto the account you create to run it. But the FaQ section at Steam usually has something that works in most cases like the page seen there.

First check to make sure that you are telling Steam to install to your primary OS partition. If it still happens, then it's probably a software glitch.

Go to www.steampowered.com, download and install the latest version of Steam, and see if that works.

Installation Trouble

If you are having difficulting installing Steam, a Steam game, or other files required for a Steam game, please ensure that Windows Installer Service is enabled under the System Configuration's "Services" Tab. http://support.steampowered.com/cgi-bin/steampowered.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=460

That's what was found other then the first link about DX 9b problems at their support site. Since the Orange box was just released it will take a while to start seeing more information there on troubleshooting installation problems. Take a look at any firewall or antivirus programs you have and make sure those are disabled. Often something like those running in the background will hamper installing a new program or game.

ok ill try it, i already have steam cuz i play source so...ill have to give it a shot later on, ive been busy and havent had a chance to try it, thanks for the help though....ill let ya kno how it goes :)

Was that the Orange Box or the first HL2 with HL1, CS:S, and EP1 later? I was looking at the Orange Box and didn't see HL1 but HL2, EP1, of course EP2, and Fortress 2 but no sign of Half Life. I doubt you can install two instances of Steam just to see all of them available meaning a wait for the free addon.

You may end up simply reinstalling it to see it go on fully and then run. Plus their servers must be bogged down for the moment since if that is the Orange Box release ""everyone" is trying to run it at the same time as well as first setting up their own account.

Durign the setup you should see the option to play online or see a full install to the drive. Since it seems the full install won't work look for the other installation option to see if the new release has that as well. Hopefully it will turn out to be just one small change needed and you didn't get stuck with a bad disk.

ok wow, i compied everything from the CD straight to my hard drive then ran the autorun from the fille and it worked fine....what the hell...lol

Sometimes you can manually browse the folders on a software disk to work around an installation problem seen with the auto installer. At least you have it going on by the looks of things. Let me know if the Orange Box still sees the HL1 included. I was thinking about grabbing a copy. But let's see how things there.

Ah steam the second most anoying program I know. Only second to linux. Cant ever get the boot loader to work!

Back on topic. It should see the HL1 because its just a registry value where steam is and the last account logged in isn't it? I have steam installed on my G drive and windows on C and I have had no problems so far. But then again if theres a glitch here then there is every chance that theres a glitch there to.

When you buy a new disk with HL2 on it you have to set up a new account since each has their own product id number. When buying EP1 on a separate disk that needed a bew account setup for it. But if you wait so many months after the initial release it's an option then seen in the My Games section to download to the existing account. That will most likely be seen with EP2 and later EP3 whenever that comes out and has been around for several months.
