In the past when i have recieved an email with attachments through Msn Hotmail id, open the email then right click 'save as' each photo i wanted, by default it would save the photos to 'My pictures'.
However recently when i open the email, right click and 'save as' the photo, the photo i save in the JPEG format becomes 'an invalid format' later on when i try and view it through 'My Pictures' . Im curious to know why all of a sudden i can not save the photos i recieve through Msn Hotmail, has my settings somewhere changed?

Hope some of you guys can help to shed some light on this matter.

thanks.

Tony.

If you recently had any updates downloaded and installed from Microsoft provided you are running XP they would have been security fixes. One of those by default may have set the "do not allow attachments to saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" option in Outlook Express.

To see if this is what happened go to the "tools" drop down menu on the Outlook explorer bar and click on "options" seen at the bottom there. Once the new screen comes up click on the security tab and see if there is a check mark there. Have you recently added a firewall program or enabled the one included with Windows? That can allow block things if not granted permission in the allow/deny settings.

Looked at both things you suggested and both are fine, neither have played a part init. It still seems to be the same.

Somewhere on my Internet Explorer or Hotmail or My pictures settings have changed.
It doesnt make sense for it to work one week then not the next.

cheers for you help PC EYE.

If you have gone through the settings in Outlook which can often effect IE since both are pretty well integrated the one thing to look at now is the "tools" on the IE explorer bar itself to see if some change was made in the "Internet Options-Security" sections.

There are four there to look through for this. "Internet - Local internet - Trusted sites - Restricted sites" In each section you will see the option to "automatic promtping for file downloads" and right under that is the "file download" setting to enable/disable. You enter each section by clicking on the "Custom level" button once you have opened the Security tab and highlighted one of the sections there.

PC Eye... can you use your own words instead of copying and pasting everything? It gets pretty old.

There was nothing copied or pasted from anywhere there. But then you might have to look up the words "emphasize" and "emphasized".
