How come my laptop screen looks worse than my 3 years old cell phone?!

I've got two Nokia phones, this E7-00, and the Lumia 920 I got a few days back.
Just for a comparison, i ripped a DVD to *.avi, and loaded it on both my phones.
The video looks awesome in the 920, and almost the same in the E7-00 (only difference is that the lumia looks a bit brighter).
But even when I play the DVD directly from the laptop's DVD drive (no format conversion, no compression, no quality loss), the picture quality is just abysmal compared to the phones. It's not that noticeable when the only sceen in front of you is the laptop. But when you hold one of the Nokias beside the laptop screen and play the same video, there's a stunning difference which is very much noticeable.
The blacks don't appear black on the computer. While on both the phones, the blacks are extremely black. On the laptop, the blacks look like shades of grey.
Is this normal? Or do you think my laptop LCD is about to die?
It's the HP ProBook4530s. :(

Your laptop just has a crappy screen. A quick look at some reviews suggest that it sports washed out colors with sub-par contrast. Not to mention its low 1366x768 resolution, which is pretty bad for a 15.6".
