HP mini 210-2081NR not working

Hello I'm new, I am having a problem with my hp mini. The light by the charger input glows blue at first but when I press the power button, the light turns off and nothing happens. The same thing with the battery hooked up, it won't turn on.

HP support said my motherboard was dead and they wanted $250 to fix it, does anyone have any suggestions on how I can troubleshoot this myself? I know quite a bit about desktop PC's but this is my first laptop.

i've got one, though not that model. This is just a bit of background, but does your charge light glow orange when it's charging?
 
In the other forum he posted in, he did say that it glowed orange when the battery was in, but battery or not, the light went out when he tried to power it up.

Sounds like an internal short, to me, though I suppose there is a remote chance that his brick is still bad.
