So I just got back from my friends house after having played through the first two levels of Halo 3 (aswell as a bit of online team slayer). Here's the thing, and I hate myself for feeling this way, but.....*dun dun dun*.....I really wasn't that impressed. I was soooo close to buying a 360 the other day it's unreal, but having now played the 360's "best ever game", I'm left numb.

It's not a bad game, in fact it's a great game, but for me it doesn't even come close to my expectations and the "legendary" status that it has amongst gamers. I mean, I've read articles where guys are saying things like "best FPS in existence" and "pushing the boundaries of technology" but in reality, it's no way near the best FPS ever. In my opinion, online play is the only thing that saves it.

I understand that most won't agree with me but I think it is undeniable that this game was over-hyped. I mean c'mon, "best FPS in existence", I can think of at least 3 superior FPS games of the top of my head (HL2, FarCry and BioShock since you asked). I'm sorry if I sound pessimistic and, just to be clear, I don't mean to sway anyone's opinion. I'm sure most 360 users are out there playing it and having great fun right now. But to be honest, I haven't been this disappointed since I found out Santa Claus wasn't real.

Halo 3's first mistake as having a release date after Bioshock. Very little games for the 360 will live up to Bioshock. Also, I heard online play was gimped, and some game modes are not longer around. All-in-all, I agree with you, and I think that Halo really should just calm down a bit. But then again, has any game ever really lived up to it's hype 100%?
 
Oh I love reading these type posts. I agree with you 12-Gauge, I think Halo 3 was terribly over hyped. Yeah sure its a good game and a great story but cmon folks...its just not that spectacular of a game. Now what game I do think has a legit shot of "best FPS ever" would be UT3 when that comes out. I've read articles on it and it seems like its going to be amazing. UT3 is a game I don't want to pass up.
 
I bought Halo 3 yesterday, and as a matter of fact I played Tony Hawks Project 8 more yesterday than I did Halo 3. Don't judge a 360 by Halo 3, because in reality Halo 3 isn't good at all.

For the record, I am not trying to start a 'Halo 3 is the best game ever' war.

Matter of fact, yesterday, I played some Halo 3 online, went to play some CSS, then played Halo 3 campaign.

Its a great game, it just takes some getting use to.
