i7 720 QM for gaming?

i7 720QM has 1.6 GHz freq and turbo boost upto 3.06 ghz is enough so that i can play
1.Call of duty black ops
2. EA FIFA 11 (12, 13, 14 For future)
3. EA battlefield
 
I don't have a laptop, going to purchase it, but some members saying that i5 540M(2.53Ghz Turbo to 3.1 Ghz) is faster than i7 720QM.

I'm purchasing a laptop soon so need help, It would have a 1Gb ATI Radeon.
 
I am curious do you actually NEED a gaming laptop? The reason I ask is its usually cheaper to go desktop and you get better parts. You could buy a laptop for mobile use and build a sweet system for less than a gaming laptop.
Also note that models on GPU are very different from laptop to PCs you can't compare the models as equal.

Example being a GTX 260 vs GTX 260m wont perform the same.

I need the laptop for work, projects, gaming, internet access.
I think laptop provides more privacy than desktops and is highly mobile too, the main thing is that I want to game where ever I go.
 
I see...I just wanted to make sure. BTW privacy is actually less on a laptop because you can steal it easier outside your house. Make sure once you get it to run a program such as TrueCrypt to keep your files locked/safe. Will keep any thieves from getting anything from your hard drive so privacy would be much better.

The i7 720QM would be just fine for gaming however.
 
Yes i7 720QM is good but i doubt that some of the games require speeds over 3GHz, where as 720QM(1.6Ghz) has turbo boost upto 3.06 GHz, will the games be too hot to handle?
 
No. Mostly it's a power saving feature. You don't need it to be running at 3ghz when you are on battery and just browsing the internet do you?
