Dell Computer: only a few days old after a Microsoft convention.

Optiplex GX620 Desktop
2.8ghz Dual Core
2GB DDR2 Memory
CD ROM
DVD combo drive
17 inch Flat Panel
1 Year next business day on-site warranty
160Gb Hard Drive
128MB ATI Radeon
X600 Graphics PCI-Express x16

They come with a legal install of Windows Vista.

Dell site.

Is this all worth $1,000? Is it a good deal?

what about the Radeon ?
which Radeon is it ?
and i think you should get a better card if you can

my personal opinion is that you can get a lot better rig than this with the 1000 bucks ... but if you build it yourself
and it also depends on what are you gonna use it for ?
if for gaming ... then this rig sucks
you should reconsider the graphics card at least

uh, he told me it comes with a legal install of windows vista. & he also said it came straight from a microsoft convention? is there any possibility its Full? does it matter anyway? when the full Vista comes out, doesn't that mean I can just auto-update the beta?

oh, and I should've added that that is $1000AUS.

there is no chance that this is a full version of Vista
and you can't just upgrade from Beta to final...(as far as i know)

£1000AUD = $750USD

Yeah, for $750, it's alright. If you were to build one yourself, you will definately be able to get a better system. Especially if you wait for Conroe, which is being released in 6 days.

Anywho, you'll want XP, not Vista. You'll find alot of programs wont even work on Vista...

The person im dealing with is a supplier who procured 200 units. He says the full version will be there by 22 aug which is when the computers come in, not sure though anyone know the release date for Vista?

If he is saying that he will provide you with the full version, then that makes sense. However, if he tells you it is already installed, or that you can simply update to the full version...then something is wrong.

For a custom build, you could get mroe for your money. However if you don't want to build it yourself, that is a decent price. I don't think you're getting ripped off if you get a warranty and all that.

well, the PC is decent, not the greatest, because those are much more expensive. i guess you will be able to do jsut fine with it. bt like they said previously, if you built one, it is much chaeper.

good luck with your purchase!

XFX GeForce 6800 GT 256MB DDR3 @ 400/1000
isnt that a decent video card........ i have a nvidia geforece 5500 and it works great with whatever i throw at it

The 5500 is a bit outdated, whatever you are "throwing" at it must not be the absolute latest. Not dissing ur card, mine is even less of a performer, jsut being realistic.

lol i like how you quotated throwing. no ive just been playing games liek counter strike, wolfenstein, WOD. things like that. (all online)
not sure what is considered new, but im ready ffor an upgrade anyways

Ah, yah those games should all play fine. I also play Wolfenstein and CS just fine. "New" would be more like FarCry, Doom3, HL2, titles that came out in late 05' or 06' I suppose. I haven't played any of them.
