is an internal dvd+rw drive the same as external except for having a casing.... i.e. would an internal with case be the same, or is there different software that corresponds with them or something?

Hi,

The guts for internal and external drives are the same so an internal drive in an external housing is, for all intents and purposes, the same as a purpose-built external drive with no need for specialty software :)

If the external drive is connected trough USB, then you might need a driver for it (in case Windows won't automatically detect it).

The drive should be effectively the same in that they both perform the same task (i.e., burn shit) but there are sometimes minor differences in model numbers .... unless you're going to be doing some fancy burning activities, it shouldnt be of any consequence :)
