Hey guys, any advice would be great. i have the option to buy a new computer with the following components and was wondering if this would be a decent computer to play games like Countstrike/ Burn cds and DVS and surf the web. I have an option for buying this brand new for around 800 dollars and that is about what I can afford right now.

Pentium D 915 Dual Core @ 2.8ghz--How good are these for gaming?

Gigabyte brand Mother Board- not positive on the model, but I dont think you can OC this board-- not positive though

1 gig ddr2 533mhz RAM

160 gb seagate 7200 rps SATA

Ge Force 7950 512MB Graphics card-

500 watt power supply

I would love any suggestions on what you guys think of this set up. I dont want to waste my money. Mainly I was wondering how good the CPU is. I know the graphics card is good but I want to know how much better the Pentium D is compared to my Pentium 4 2.27ghz that I currently have. Is this system already outdated?

Thanks in advance

You could build a much better system for $800. That system probably wouldn't be THAT bad with the Geforce 7950, but the processor isn't that great for gamming.

well i can get the

CPU for $100
mobo 100
vid card 250
ram 125
hd 100
case and PSU 125

What could I get that was cheaper than this, that would be better. I dont multitask so I really dont want to spend more money on the duo 2, plus the mother boards are more money

I really just want to play games on this machine! Is the Pent D 915 not a good chip for gaming. I use a Pentium 4 2.27 right now and it works just fine for me. I just wanted to update things b/c my system is about 5 years old now.

That processor is fine for gaming. No problems at all. I game on a 2.8GHz Prescott and it runs everything I throw at it with an X800 Pro. Even Quake 4 is flawless on it.

It's not optimal, but it will do the job. Just like my good old Pentium D 820. However, your build isn't really that bad for that price. Of course, you could probably do better.

Yeah, I never said it was just plain horrible, but I know it's pretty low on the list when compared to say an Athlon 64 or something :P

Eh, I don't have time to make you a computer, but I'm pretty sure I could top the build for that price...

Thanks for all the help guys but I have one more question

How much better (if any) is the pentium d 915 compared to a single core amd 3800+
