is this true

Lol that's really messed up, but the fight between Sony,Microsoft and Nintendo will never end...

That's how it works... The 1st party Company pays the 3rd party developer to keep the game exclusive. They have to or there'd be no reason for exclusive titles, multi-platform titles are invariably more profitable. The only time this doesn't happen is when, of course, the exclusive game is made by the company itself.

Sony does that too, Gran Turismo never gets released for Windows or X Box . Like every time you choose a games console you weigh up the ballance between computing power and games available.

Typically exclusive titles have a period where they are exclusive. when MGS2 came out for the PS2 a xbox version was released nearly 11 months later. Typically, I think they purchase a contract, stating that between these dates you can't port the game to any other platform. Since microsoft makes a PC OS, it could be said it was in their interest to make a PC version of Bioshock, but not a PS3 or a Wii version because that is direct competition.

I am sure there is a lot of legalese in there somewhere and I am not a lawyer.

They can make any sort of contract with any company that states that this is a game solely designed for this manufacturer/system. Why do you think that Final Fantasy has only been on Sony consoles after it came off of Nintendo how ever long ago? Sony paid/pays Square more than Nintendo was willing to.

I believe there are anti trust laws that conflict with third party though. Since Sony owns square, the developer of FF series, then they can release it on their product, but paying a third party to corner a market can be a gray area. I am pretty sure most of it is some sort of contract which has defined stipulations. In your example you are citing a reference to a company Sony actually owns. Just like all the games that are made by Nintendo are for Nintendo only. When you toss third party into the mix I can see it being argued that it violates anti trust laws. Like I said though, I am not a lawyer. I just dated one, and my best friend is marrying one. So, all my legal knowledge comes from general conversations with them.

Hmm..., didn't know that Sony owns Square, or do I vaguely remember that? I don't know, but I'm not sure that there are necessarily any laws that are broken, I have the same set-up with the lawyers as you. But if there's a loophole, I'm sure that MS has found it.

Final Fantasy/Square was a big name (much bigger in japan), I don't remember money being the issue when it switched to Sony, even it it was, Nintendo surely would've been willing to match and/or beat Sony's offer. It was the data format, I believe. Square was pressuring Nintendo to make the N64 have a CD-ROM component, And when it decided against that, they ended their partnership and made buddies with Sony and their Playstation. The Playstation also had more potential, both in it's marketability and power, and that's not to mention the memory card issue.

Why they're still with Sony is based less on how much $$$ is receive from Sony, as it is from the astonishingly large user-base Sony consoles have had. More possible sales than the confused, and slightly abused Gamecube ever offered. This is going to change soon however, with the new, and obviously more popular nintendo consoles. The DS is getting a plethora of Square-enix games, Kingdom hearts, FF remakes, Dragon quest IV, IX, and monsters. The Xbox may also be getting Square games, given that they have been overly obvious in their multi-platform hints, and their recent interviews voicing the opinion that they want to triple their US revenue. They can do it too, they just have to break off from their restrictive relationship with Sony.

Sony actually developed the CD-ROM attachment for Nintendo. It was suppose to be an additional upgrade like Sega CD for the SNES. Nintendo scrapped it and decided to go next gen with cartridges on the N64. Sony, said screw you we are still releasing this product, hence the PS1.

Now, the final fantasy games were originally released on nintendo, FF7 was the first exclusive to the PS 1. For one, it was a CDROM based game and not cartridge, then Sony decided to just by Square, so they did.

I remember that, now that you mention it. How ironic! I guess they had to start somewhere, at Nintendo's feet though... Heh.

Well the PS1 was pretty successful once it dropped from its outrageous price of $700.00 USD to $200.00. Also, the PS1 is highly sought out item sometimes because a lot of audiophiles out there love the fact that it is high fidelity audio out.

Nintendo 64 was a great system, some of the best games came out on it IMO. Mariokart 64 was so awesome. I still play that game, and of course James Bond was really sweet when it first came out. Nintendo has always had really fun games, but the PS1 and the PS2 also had this but with higher end games and typically about the same price, but Nintendo has always tried to make their console more affordable. Which is why you see more Nintendos world wide than any other system.

Now that the competition is getting steeper and steeper you started seeing third party exclusives. I like the idea and then again I don't. Mainly, because that I think third party games could be awesome when ported to multiple systems. Each has their advantage, and the developer can tweak them to each console or PC, giving the consumer the best choice.

LMAO thats funny. Go Microsoft!
