Laptop Care

I just got a new laptop (YAY!) and I'm sort of gonna depend on it for everything cause its my baby. Anyway, I need to know some stuff about laptops. Any advice for care? Is it okay to walk and use it at the same time? Standing? Laying down with it on lap? Leave it on all night for downloads or whatever (if plugged in)? Anything different than PCs?
(I have an hp dv8000z)

Thanks everybody! And thanks to those who showed me this hawtsex computer! And thanks for the extra $100 off coupon code.
Oh, and if anybody is pllanning on buying either notebook accessories over $20 or something(s) over $100 from hp, i've got $10 off coupon codes for both, so PM me.

It's ok to walk and use, assuming you're not clumsy and drop it. Same goes for standing. Using it on your lap (I'm guessing...), is how a laptop got its name....As for leaving it on all night...well, that's what a desktop is for. I haven't left my laptop on all night, and probaly won't.

Hahaha okay. I'm not clumsy, but just incase, I'll stick to closing it when I walk. Thanks for your help.

I <3 my laptop. Shiny lights everywhere, amazing sound, big screen, orgasmic <3 <3

Yeah you can do all that. As far as care, just buy a good case for it and you should be set. Anything else as far as maintenance, just have some wipes and internally, good anti-tools.

Haha kk thanksss
I hate anti-viruses though. They annoy me. I'll get rid of my own viruses, thank you very much.

Good luck with that...

Anyway, things I try to do/not do with my laptop... I try not to open to open and close the screen too much. As many people know, those hindges and the wires around them are the main failing points on most laptops. If you're not going to use it, most have a suspend key. Do that rather than closing it or leaving it on. Heat's a major factor too. I run mine underclocked basically all the time. Also, be sure it's always got plenty of room to breath, especially if the fan's running.

As for security, be sure any wireless devices are DISABLED unless you're using them. I've gone into classroom's with my PDA and picked up many bluetooth devices before, and I'm sure there's some way to hack into them... And, even if you're aginst it, I'd run a virus scan and firewall of some sort on there.

Finally, I backup everything I need to memory sticks. It's best not to leave anything on the laptop you don't want found, but particually, don't leave anything you can't afford to loose(IE school papers :P) Besides getting lost, they are much easier to break than desktops and have many more failure points.
