Ok, i was just kinda looking around, and i have found these to match what i want for a laptop:

DV1000 14.4 in 5.3 lbs
PM1.7
512mb ram
GMA900
60gb 5400
12cell battery
hp remote
$1100

Battalion 101 slim 12.1 in. 4.1 lbs
pm 1.6
512mb ram
intel exreme 2
60gb 5400
2 batteries
$1100

Xplorer X64 9700 (if i think i can add the weight) 15.4 in 6.3 lbs
MT 1.6 (turion)
512mb ram
128mb X700
60gb 5400
single battery
$1100

the last one i am thinking is a little bigger then i want because if the 15.4 in. and 6.3 lbs........but it does offer some gaming ability.

X24 if you are looking for a portable laptop check out the compaq v2000z. i've read great reviews on them and are extremely cheap. plus you get the hp warranty and its not crap like they used to be.

Yes, its compaq version of the DV1000, only with a Turion processor....which does mean the 200M........but idk if its really that much cheaper then the DV1000.......all i can see is that $50 mail in rebate making the differnence, and i don't like mail in rebates.

Also, i realize i have 3 differnt types of notebooks here.
1. portable multimedia
2. ultra portability
3. portable gaming
i guess its kinda up to me to see which one i want more.........

college students get an extra 50$ off :) i was planning on ordering one and it came out to be only 728$ including shipping and everything with a turion ML-30 and the 200m. for doing little gaming and using it mainly for programming its a pretty good price along with performance.

After playing around with the L2000, which is the same as that compaq, i like it. i'll include the compaq in my list of laptops.......also, i realize i can only get dvd rom/cdrw drive in the battalion slim......but i'm still considering it since i haven't really used the dvd burner much.......

also, i can't find battery life estimates on any of the ibuypower or cyberpower laptops......which is kinda important to me......but i guess i'll be suprised by it if i get one.

What number do i call to ask about the student discount?
also i might go with 256mb ram and just add in another 512mb stick or maybe 2x 512 to get a gig.
