Laptop CPU Trouble

My son has a problem,his cpu slowed down after a re-install of xp! can someone explain how this happens or how to rectify the situation, please

there are some settings within windows to do with power option in the control panel which enable this. When the CPU isn't being used the processor will slow down to conserve battery life and reduce temperatures, this is completely normal and nothing to worry about. If you want to disable this feature just set the systems power profile in the power options to desktop.
