Laptop keeps restarting

Hi,

I'm having a serious problem. I have an fujitsu siemens Amilo D1840, and i've recently been facing a serious problem. All of a sudden, Windows XP Profesional decides to give me the following error during startup:

[C0000135] - [Unable to locate component]
The application failed to start up because winsrv was not found. The best solution to this problem is to reinstall the application.

After this message appears, the Laptop restarts, so i cannot even get into Windows to do anything. I've even tried starting up in Safe Mode, but the same stop error occurs. Please let me know what's the best solution. I installed service pack 2 ages ago so I don't think thats the problem.

Formatting the Hard Drive is NOT an option.

Thanks in advance.

Laptop wont start

Hello, Thanks for your reply. I have already read that from Microsoft and I can't even do that cos i can't get into the system Tried contacting microsoft onlinebut even with that they need my product ID which is on my laptop. At the moment i don't want to format the harddrive and reinstall windows cos i dont know what the problem is and i will be very gutted if i after doing that i find out that wasn't the problem and have lost all my data. Do you know what is causing this please.
Thank you

your product id should be located on a windows sticker beneath your computer.
try popping in the windows cd and run recovery.

This isn't exactly going to help your problem, but if you do end up needing to reformat and want to keep your data download a Linux live CD, i like Meppis, www.mepis.org. This will allow you ta access the HDD and copy any files you want onto a networked computer or flash pen drive
