ok, so my question is, what size power supply could i get away with, i was thinking i might go to tri-sli with 3 gtx 280's if the price gets there, im most likely going to be running six hard drives on a 790i with a [email protected], if that matters edit: i was looking for something modular too, and where to get standoffs

Here's a modular one and if I am thinking right, Zalman PSU's are made by Seasonic...

Remember--and I cannot stress this enough--that you're going to have to ensure that these big-dog PSUs take up a CRAPLOAD of space in a case. I have an Ultra 1KW shoehorned into a Lian-Li V1000 right now. Removed one internal HD cage and it's still a tight fit. But frankly, if you've got tri-SLI, you're talking about a full tower anyway.

I would recommend the Ultra, to a certain extent. I've broken one of the connectors on the thingremoving plugs from it when I needed to make a quick change after squeezing it into the Lian. Connectors on a $300 box should not break. But other than that, it runs quite and cool.

If you're serious about this, get in touch with ceewi1 (sp?). He knows this stuff inside and out, and with this much money and hardware at stake, you wanna know what you're doing, and what you're getting into. Screw up with your PSU, and all that shiny hardware is going down the drain.

Lastly...6 hard drives...3 GPUs...OC'd quad core...and either a beefy fan setup or watercooling. I would not be surprised if you were in multi-PSU territory.

yeah, if i really needed it i could get a mountain mods case that can hold 2 power supplies and about 4 or 5 radiators
