minecraft lag despite my gtx 670?

So I just built a new desktop computer, I have an intel i7 quad core, the 3770k, and an NVIDIA gtx 670 2gb vram. I can run battlefield 3 on ult with 70-80 fps no problem, but for somereason when I run minecraft, and I move around quickly I constantly find myself waiting for chunks to be rendered, I would think I should mever see blackness ever as low quality the graphics are on this awesome game lol

so what gives why does it run so slow? especially when I crank the render distance to extreme using optifine and spoutcraft and such,

also, when I am running minecraft, I never see my gpu go above 20% which could explain the slow rendering and fps, so why does it do this how can I fix it? I want to be able to crank up 10x speed on super view distance and see it all load instantly.

odly enough though, when I stop moving in game, just let it sit there, my gpu meter shoots up to 70% but as soon as i move my character it goes back down to 5%?

thanks.

Update Java to 64 bit if you haven't already.

Java isn't the best optimized engine for running graphical games. I tried runescape on my relatively powerful computer (although nothing like yours) and it only runs at like 10 FPS. Ran about the same on a Pentium 4 single core and a 8400GS. Minecraft however does run well for me a pretty consistent 50fps or more.

Probably a Java or driver issue. Update both. Java to 64 bit.

Java could run the game just fine. It's more capable than people give credit for. It's just the engine that Notch wrote is poorly optimized. That really needs to be Mojang's focus before adding more content, but they only do little patches here and there.

His suggestions are dead on though. Install Java 64 bit instead. As well, look into allocating more memory to Java, as I believe it's initial limit is like 1024 MB. There are also mods and tricks that you can use to boost FPS. I can't think of any at the moment else I'd link them.

"Java isn't good for making games"
This is such a false statement people just throw around.
Please, don't help spread this heresy.
It is perfectly fine to run games with. I myself have been toying around with a game engine in pure java, and guess what, the frame rate is over 400. Yes. No, this is not some intense FPS with ultra res graphics. But it is a lot better then mine craft. Why? Because the back end is solid and made for performance. Minecraft wasn't. Python is a extremely slow language compared to Java, and EVE, a popular MMO runs great on pure python. So this whole the language is the barrier crap is bullocks.

OP, upgrade to 64 bit java as suggested.
In NVIDIA settings, find minecraft, and have your graphics cards handle everything. Should be a box or something like that to check off. I have found this helps a lot.

In the minecraft settings is open gl enabled and also how much memory does your system have and do you have allocated to the game?

yes I have only the java 7 update 5 64bit installed. And yes I have gone into the nvidia control panel and told the gpu to run minecraft.

I have 1gig allocated to both spoutcraft and the vanilla MC but even when I raised it to 2gigs it didnt help, they never use mor than 500mb for me, im running default texturepack.

but i allocated 2gigs to the game not java itself, how would I do that?

personally, i suspect it is my internet, i get 2.5mbps download and .5mbps upload on speedtest.net. reason i say this is because when i stop moving my dude and let all the world load in, my fps shoots up to 200fps and my gpu cranks into gear running around 50%, but as soon as i move it all plumets. ? slow internet cant update chunks fast enough maybe? I am runing the server on my pc.

thanks

My internet is literally almost the exact same speed and I never have issues on servers or single player. But as stated internet doesn't affect single player.

If all else fails uninstall the game and mods completely. Reinstall just the game and try it. If it's fine continue to install your mods one by one and check after each one. If it freaks out after installing one of them then that's your problem. If it works after all then you had installation issues or something like that.

so you can crank up the graphics to extreme using optifine with no lag? hmm, ugh, this problem has proven so evasive.
