Mobile HDD --> Problems

Hi,

I just bought a 160 GB 'TREKSTORE' HDD with USB 2.0 connection.
(the HDD is compatible to USB 1.1 - which is on my computer)

When attaching the HDD to my deskstop it gets properly installed and an additional Drive-icon is shown on the desktop-overview.
But suddenly this additional Drive (G:) disappears with a 'ding-dong' and also
suddenly appears back on the desktop-overview... and so on..

When trying to transfer data from any desktop-folder (e.g. dig.mpeg-files)
to the mobile-HDD (with copy and paste) the transfer gets interrupted after a while (with that a.m. 'ding-dong) and thus the whole transfer consists of corrupt data (which is logical for me 'cause the interrupt stops the data transfer !)

What might be the reason for this problem ?
Thanks :) for any help !

Loose connection. My laptop has a USB port like that ... hell my wall has a power outlet like that

- yeah - your answer sounds reasonable - but even the 2nd USB-Port on my computer shows the same effect.
I'll try to use the USB-Port from my IBM-Keyboard - if this is OK - we got it...

cheers

Thanks guys for your help - the problem really was a loose USB-connection !
I attached the HDD to my IBM Keyboard's USB - it took 55 hours to transfer 49 GBs...
But it works...

cheers
