Moral Kombat

yeah....idk

imo saying that violent video games are responsible for violent actions is like saying computer magazines are responsible for making people interested in computers. its backwards.

ppl who are interested in computers read computer magazines, and people who are violent tend to like violent activites (ie playing video games)

A mentally unstable, depressed, or otherwise unhealthy soul can be brought to violence through media of all types, including the more visceral types like video games and cinema. Saying that these types of media create these situations by themselves is unfounded; humans are more complicated than that, stimuli = appropriate reaction doesn't apply the same way to separate people. A child exposed to high levels of violence and abuse as a child (me, for example) does not automatically get jousted into an aggressive, turmoiled adulthood. As such, Violence in general is not a result of violent media, it is a result of violent people.

I don't deny that violent scenes, media, and situations can create a more ideal pot for aggression to come to boil, But video games play only a small part, they are usually escapes from a life they cannot control, will not fathom, do not understand. A father who beats his son, a mother who berates and abuses her daughter are much more primal suspects, than the simple escape used to avoid and forget these situations. Even in these situations the person has a choice, and they, more readily than not, choose the easy and predictable route, that of anger, self-pity, and pain. This is, In my opinion, a failure of that person. A failure of any support they may have had. It's harsh, and I've been down that road, may even still be down that road, but nonetheless I consider it a weakness.

In short, our world is violent. Blaming the violent actions of our children on one simple outlet is wrong. There are dozens upon dozens of reasons, and no easy answer. Maybe simply , that our world is just violent. :(

i happened to do a report on this a few months ago. i found in my own studies, that took about two months in total, screening people that played violent video games and then people that could not play video games. my results astounded me, and my teacher, who demanded i create a video diary and show my results via video. my results stated that people who play violent video games are LESS likely to become violent either in adulthood or in the immediate environment.

nearing the end of my studies, i got a copy of doom 3, quake 4, and halo 2. i took videos of myself playing these games, (cutting out the parts where i jumped like a child in doom and quake, lol) and once again my results were amazing. after the games i felt envigorated, ready to take action, but where? violently? hell no! i felt like relaxing and watching telly-tubbies after that sh!t!!! otherwise known as calming agents, this video says that we are becoming like our video games. they say the terrorists played a video game and killed thousands of people, and the nine year old is playing a video game where he is rewarded for killing cops. what the hell were the terrorists INTENTIONS before playing the game? what were the nine-year-olds intentions? he doesnt give a crap, he's nine. the terrorists had their mind set already to kill people, BEFORE THEY EVER TOUCHED A VIDEO GAME what does that say?

it doesnt matter becuase there will always be the parents who will buy the game for their kids. I remember when rainbow six and graw 2 came out playing online and having some kids raning from 10-12 on there who still had their highpitched voices. A friend of mine works at a game store here in town and there were actually parents waiting in line with their under 17 kids to buy them halo 3 the night it came out what idiots.
