I was bored the other day and decided to put together a computer that is similar to my HP Pavilion 540n. My parents bought it like 5 years ago for around $1200. Here 's the new setup. The brand names aren't the same except for the input devices and the CRT.

HP Pavilion MicroATX Case.....................................$30

HP MX90 17" CRT Monitor.......................................$50

HP Keyboard, Mouse, and Speaker Combo.........................$20

Athena Power MicroATX 250W Power Supply (12V@13A).............$18

ASUS P4S8X-MX Socket 478 Micro ATX Motherboard................$47

Intel Pentium 4 1.6GHz Socket 478 Proccessor..................$62

Samsung CD-RW Drive................................................$20

Western Digital 40GB 2MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive....$42

Kingston ValueRAM 256MB DDR SDRAM PC 2100.....................$22

1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive.............................$6

Grand Total...................................................$317

It's amazing how much cheaper computers are these days.

lol:D , if only your parents could get that other $900 back

Same here. Look at my set-up. My parents bought this around 1,000 dollars and the gpu was actually a tnt2 nvidia 32mb or something. Kind of sucks. lol

not really, now yes, but in 2-3 years you and me both will look at my sig and think how the hell did i ever manage with that. back in 1985 do you really think they were sitting there moaning about how solw it was??? the price you paid was relative to the current economic situation and the time period.
