My first thread: FREAKING cheap computers

I keep reading about $1000+ budget computers..

...and I have been looking around for some CHEAP ASS computers...


like... lets say a budget of $200-$250



This might sound stupid for some people.. but I'm looking to buy a few intel 800+ Mhz computers (or AMD) (that can run various linux flavors and I dont need or WANT to spend over $200....



any suggestions???

Building it yourself is the only way to get it that cheap...unless you can find one from a friend or on ebay...

... I guess my question is about parts...

... I assume some of you know of websites that sell parts cheaper than in stores.. because I have been to quite a few of them in this area and the average is around $500 .. which, custom built, can buy a really nice machine... chop that in half.. and it gets a little more difficult.

I dunno ... i find local stores are significantly (5%+) cheaper than online stores .... especially for "junk computers"

Its quite possible to get a computer for $200(CAD even) ... have a serious look at your newspaper

...here in Southern California.. where the average price for a home is over $400,000 in US currency..... its not easy finding a $200 computer!
