Before installing the mod you needed to see the Steam engine updated first. You may have to remove the mod to see that done there. Without any mods the Steam: Source engine will automatically update itself when going to run one of the games you have installed.

You mean that everytime steam needs to update, gary's mod need be removed to do so? With the frequency of Steam updates, and the popularoty of G-mod, this would be a very big problem; one Valve couldn't ignore. But I don't believe that's the problem, g-mod is not a mod for steam, it a mod for half life 2 and has all the outward appearances of a game, even appearing in the my games section, maybe? (don't have it on steam)

The error refers to the mod, or Hl2 itself, I believe. You should try updating them manually, Dl'ing the newest releases.

No I don't mean removing the G mod everytime Steam has an update but to see if that is preventing the Steam engine from updates at the present time. Sometimes a game mod since HL2 still needs an online connection to log into the account will hamper things. Usually the moment you first double any of the game icons the message that a new update is available is seen when no mods are used.

In fact you have to wait for the update to see complete download and installation to see the game is ready followup message that comes afterwards. If the mod itself now has a glitch it may need a reinstall to correct that.
