Need to be able to adjust Voltage on old PSU

I'm in school for electrical engineering and in my AC/DC class we have a protoboard used to create circuits and it would be nice to have an adjustable power supply at home. My teacher mentioned it was fairly easy to hook something up to my old computer PSU to be able to adjust the voltage. I just can't remember exactly what he said to buy or where to go to buy it. As it stands I have to go into school on off days if I want to get any extra time with practicing and it's a bit of a drive, and with winter coming up I'd like something else to do indoors...:).

Anyways, does anyone know exactly what I need to get to be able to adjust the voltage on a computer PSU. I have a multi meter for measuring resistance and what not so I'm good in that area. I'd like it to be a knob to turn for adjusting the voltage, but if I have to it can be a switch for at least 6v, 9v and 12v. Thanks.

I believe you are looking for a potentiometer? Not sure but adjusting voltage is its main purpose.

Yeah, that's one part of it, I have the resistors and pretty much everything else but I need but the right potentiometer. I have a few but they're not useful for this, they take too many turns to adjust so I'm going to get a 1-turn. I got the schematic from my instructor and a small bread board to build the circuit so I think I'm good now. Basically I'm going to use an old PS for a laptop, the actual cord that plugs into the wall instead of an actual computer PSU. I found one that's 19V which is perfect because I need to be able to go to at least 15V.

Sorry for the long lag between responses, in the middle of a move and haven't had internet.
