Network Adapter GONE?!?!

A few days ago power went down at my GF's house. Every computer in the house lost internet, and also all the network cards were disabled for some reason. I went around and re-installed all the cards, rebooted, fixed them all.

Accept for her brothers computer. His onboard NIC cannot be recognized for some reason.

It is enabled in BIOS.
Device Manager doesn't even have a "Network Adapters" category anymore.
Scanning for new hardware doesn't come up with anything.
Exploring through Network Connections brings up a page that is blank.

So I'm stuck? How do I get it to re-recognize his onboard NIC?

If I can't get it working tomorrow I'm just going to get him a PCI network card and install it.
 
Good idea. I'm only guessing but could the loss of internet connection be due to a power surge (electric storm?)??? PCI ethernet cards are cheap. We have about 300 at work.
 
It was storming very bad. The power didn't go out, but the internet shut off. There phone lines also cut out adn they are STILL down right now. There service provider is coming tomorrow to look at the phone, but since the internet works for the majority of computers they aren't looking at the PC.
 
What I would do is throw in a temporary PCI NIC and see if all works well. Then you would know if it was a problem with windows or the on-board NIC.
 
can you download the driver from the manufacturers site and try to re-install it? OR try to do a system restore which should may enable the card again.
 
Well all is well. The cable guy who showed up was nicer than the person on the phone and took a look at it. I was not here, but my GF told me he swapped out a cable for their router, switched another cable out, and it just magically started working again when when he rebooted the system. Very odd to me, but it works so I won't question it?
