Networking for Gaming

Hey Folks, my problem is concerning gaming over VPN.
I wish to connect to my friend's computer externally. Using VPN. Although the problem lies in his house having a router. Is it possible to connect and play via this method?
And also if someone could let me know of a method to create the VPN from computer to Router to computer?.

if your playing a game, you can host the game(if ur not behind a router) and he can connect to you, or you guys could both join the same game hosted by someone else. All depends on the game though.

You dont need a VPN to play a game online together, just setup a game, give him your IP, and he can join.

If the person that is hosting the game is behimd the router he may have to open the port the game uses on the router

just setup a VPN on the router and give your friend access and the credentials to hook up to your router. of course this wont work if you router doesnt support vpn tunnelling
