networking problem

ive set up a network in my flat for me and my flatmates, now ideally, it should be as easy as them plugging in the network cables into their laptops and everything works...but im havign problems with one of their laptops, the lan icon enables when i plug the cable in, but then disconnects itself, and then enables again, and the disconnects and keeps doing this
its a dell laptop with broadcom 440x 10/100 network controller.
any ideas?

reinstall the network controller, if that doesnt work, try a different network controller

Well unless you have a crossover cable you cannot connect a computer directly through another computer. I am not sure what your setup is as of now. You need a hub or a router if you want to network all the computers together. If you have a router or a hub all you need are regular ethernet cables. Hope this helps.

let me me know how many computer you set on lan then which cable u used cross or straight
