OK, some of you guys convinced me to go with a 64 bit processor for my new computer and here is what I have come up with so far.

RAIDMAX Black 10-bay Case with 420W Power Supply, Model "ATX-868WBP" -RETAIL $45

Western Digital 120GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD1200JD, OEM Drive Only $93

Corsair Value Select Dual Channel Kit 184 Pin 1G(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 - OEM $155

MSI "K8T NEO-FSR" K8T800 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket 754 CPU -RETAIL $83

AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 512KB L2 Cache 64-bit Processor - Retail $175

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack SP1a - OEM $90

Albatron nVIDIA GeForce FX5700LE Video Card, 256MB DDR, 128-bit, DVI/TV Out, 8X AGP, Model "FX5700LEQ" -RETAIL $115

Is the MSI K8T a good motherboard, and does it support dual channel memory?

Any other recommendations?

Thanks,
Sven

Hmm.
The couple things I worry about, is the CPU and the Video card. If it was a plain 5700 it would be cool, be the 5700 LE.. And the AMD socket 939 is MUUCH perferable to the 754. the 939 should be AMD's main CPU for a while to come so it should be fairly upgradable.. But even still, the 754 is still a nice proccy.. :).. I would really try to find a different vid card though.

His reccommendation is probably good regardless however we're missing out on one of the more important things: what are you going to use the computer for??

I'm a college student, surf the internet, and play games. I like the first person shooter video games so I need a decent video card, but I'd like to find one under $150. Is the 5700 good for gaming?

How about one of these cards:
Albatron nVIDIA GeForce FX5700 Video Card, 256MB DDR, 128-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "FX5700Q" -RETAIL $138

Soltek nVIDIA GeForce FX5700 Video Card, 256MB DDR, 128-Bit, TV-OUT/DVI, 8X AGP Model "SL-5700-QD" -RETAIL $134

ATI AIW RADEON 9600 Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-bit, CATV/Video Out/Video In, 8X AGP, Model "ALL-IN-WONDER 9600" w/ REMOTE -RETAIL $139

POWERCOLOR ATI RADEON 9800SE Video Card, 128MB DDR, 256-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "R98SE-C3" -RETAIL $144

POWERCOLOR ATI RADEON 9800SE Video Card, 128MB DDR, 256-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, bundle Free Hitman Contracts Game , Model "R98SE-C3G" -RETAIL $149

Are there any other cards that would perform better, in my price range?

Thanks again,
sven

If you can jack it to $175 then you can get the 5900XT and not have to bother deciding between the other cards :) Realistically it doesnt matter much although Id think the 5700 is the better of the cards there.

How about this one:
Albatron nVIDIA GeForce FX5900XT Video Card, 128MB DDR, 256-bit, DVI/VIVO, 8X AGP, Model "FX5900XTV" -RETAIL $188

I went a little above my price range to include VIVO, so I can watch tv on my computer as I was planning on buying a video capture card later anyway. Does it matter what brand I get or are they all pretty much equal?

Thanks,
Sven

VIVO = VideoIn, VideoOut not TVIn,VideoOut .. you'll need a TV to make use of it

As for brand, unless you're playing in the premium arena it doesnt matter much

The 9800Pro is definitely better than the 5700 ... its the top of its class whilst the 5700 is the midrange card.
