Hi, i was looking to get a laptop for uni and as i know nothing about anything laptopy im going to blindly follow your advice once again.

http://www.novatech.co.uk/laptop/range/novatecheliten1549.html

This is what i was looking at. comes with :
Intel i7 4700MQ Quad Core Processor
Nvidia Optimus GTX770M 3GB

A month ago this site had the same laptop but with a 7950m for 100 pounds less, im not sure if this was a special deal or is it worth waiting for about a month for a better deal ?

You know of a better deal elsewhere? The budget i have is around abouts 1000 pounds.

I'm using this mostly for mobility but of course I'd still like to game. The 15" screen doesnt really bother me but more is better. The game i will mostly be playing is starcraft 2 and I would like oh so much to keep it on ultra settings, will this be able to handle it ?

thanks for any help

Having a quick check on the web. That seems to be a fair deal for the spec.
If you want closer to £1000 budget. You have to get a less powerful CPU or graphic.

Is 17" OK?

Slower GPU. Add 120GB SSD + 1TB HDD. It comes around £1000

A larger computer (17") will most likely have a dual HDD bay which is a nice thing in my opinion. Consider though that a 17" will not fit any MANY backpacks, I had a lot of issues while trying to pack up a spare laptop and decided to just take my brand new one on a trip I was taking even though I didn't want to :P. I see the laptop you are looking at is pretty thick, make sure it doesn't way too much and isn't TOO thick for your licking in your backpack/hand :) Also consider purchasing a cooling pad and laptop sleeve with your laptop because it'll make the life of your laptop a lot longer. If you buy a laptop with less RAM and a small HDD, it's not too much to add in new parts. I added a faster HDD and twice the ram as stock for about $140 (idk the conversion to pounds) but my laptop was a $1200 (USD) laptop so $140 was like nothing to add twice the RAM and triple the speed in HDD (Momentus XT 750GB with 8GB cache HDD). I also hooked up an external monitor to dual screen my laptop while in my dorm room, it's very nice to have while gaming because you can double manage music and games if you are interested in that, and it doesn't reduce game play at all :). GL on the buy man, looks like a great computer!

Wow, looking again, this laptop is almost good to go as is! 16gb of ram is enough (I have that) for anything, the 770 is a great G-card and 1tb of HDD is a lot but I would go with the momentus cuz it's faster and learns as it goes. I put my stock 1tb in an external hard drive case for movie storage lol. The only issue I see here is that it has windows 8. If you aren't used to windows 8 then you might not like it. There are things available to make Windows 8 look like 7 (I think it's called Windows classic...some add on thing idk I have W7) but it does make the laptop a little confusing for a little bit if you're coming from anything else. On the plus side for W8, I do believe it uses less RAM and provides a very available access to all programs quickly but I prefer 7 myself :P
