ive done alot of reading and research and found that sony probably want be making a PS4.Most developers and Journalists have estimated the PS3 will be the last console SONY releases, considering how much money they lost in its production. They say that the PS3 almost bankrupted SONY 6 months after its release. do yall think this is true? oh and i guess Microsoft is looking into technologies and processers that will be available in 2013 for there xbox 720.

They always said that the PS3 will be the last console. However, how true that will be in a couple years time... The only thing I can think they might do, is integrated TV/PC's/Consoles. They have the first 2 together, just add a decent GPU and you have the third as well

yeah thats a good start,but...t.v life span is around 10 years at the lowest and a gaming system is about 5 years(not MTBF but as in graphical). so either it would have to have an upgrade ability or you would have to replace your t.v every 5 years or so to keep up with the graphic design.

they could add in an expansion slot sort of thing, so your graphics just slides in. Games would be downloadable to a hard drive in the TV, or could be on external storage media. I'm making this up by the way, I've not read, been told about, or even heard of anything like this. If it turns out to eventually happen, I want full intellectual rights for it, it was my idea after all, the evidence is here :P

its called the ipad.

Can the ipad be upgraded though, and have an expansion slot similar to that on a notebook which will house the add on graphics + games adapter?

Again, you should patent just that.
It's a good idea.
An upgradable console. Could come with a low-end GPU, upgrade whenever

Sony needs to get a clue if they are losing money then do the only smart thing GO DIGITAL.
If you made a PC emulator and sold it for $20 then sold games via download (torrent protocol even) for $30 a game they would reap the cash in.

Problem is the simple solution wont work because they like to complain "we should have made 10B but we only made 4B this year, lets blame pirates"

You are sort of off the line of what I was thinking, but in all seriousness I may check if such a thing has been patented, and if not look into it...

@Twist, aren't emulators legal anyway, so long as you actually own the console + games and get the necessary files (eg the BIOS) from your own device? I know they don't get endorsement from the actual companies that produced the console, so it is all community made so therefore isn't completely without its bugs, but if anything I think it is better that way

No, they aren't. They violate the IP rights of companies, and distribution of BIOS/ROM files and such have never been legal, whether or not you own the console/games. The idea that "roms are legal if you own the game" is a common myth.

I know that distribution of roms the BIOS is illegal, but wasn't sure about the use. Emulators themselves are perfectly legal though, right, to have one, and to use open source software on them

maybe not this upcoming game systems but future ones will be digital DL.no more going to the store to buy your games, just like steam.and for the "Again, you should patent just that" unless you can get something like the xbox360,ps3 and the wii to the size of a cell phone it want happen.t.v's are getting so slim/small that it would have to be less than a half inch thick, i dont think we have the technology to pack so much power in such a small place.maybe in like 10-15 years.

This is sounding very similar to a PC game hooked up to a large TV...

Both Microsoft and Sony have said they have no plans for new consoles yet, which is unfortunate as many developers code for them first, and then just port over to pc without much effort... leaving us PC Gamers with bland and hard to control games :(

Only if they have a custom bios.

According to certain emulator forums, from officials there, you can obtain the BIOS from your device yourself, just not distribute it. Can you post some sort of link to say that obtaining the BIOS in the first place is illegal, because although I'm not saying you are wrong, I would tend to trust them more, even though they make these emulators. Without keeping it squeeky clean (especially the better known ones) the companies (Sony, Nintendo etc) will come down on them and shut them down, after all certain emulators still have games available for new purchase, like a PS2 for instance.

They won't allow discussion of how to obtain game roms, links to BIOS files, anything like that, because they would potentially be shut down, but there are guides on the same forums for how to obtain your BIOS

It is vastly different (at least in my head :P), but in theory, very, very doable
