old mothrboards

i have an old motherboard (microstar msi-5142) and the highest amount of memory it supports is 256mb. will anything happen if you add more memory??for instance to 512mb

I think it will only register 256 of whatever amount you put in.

Check out MSI website for a BIOS upgrade. It may just need an upgrade to enable more ram on that board..Worth a check see......

Thats an old K-6 board, I dont think u need to upgrade the memory...what is it a 166Mhz. I know some guys that still game with it...The older games..
