One connection, 2 computers

Hey guys/girls,
My friend is having some trouble with his computer and he asked me for help. I had no idea how to solve the problem so I came to you guys for help.

The Problem:
They have 2 computers running off the same router, but their problem is they can only connect one of them at any one time. They are using DSL, and have them both connected directly to the router with no wireless connection at all. I tried to figure out how to solve the problem but once again I had no idea.
If you need the router type I can call him up and get it, but thats all the info I have.

I mean that only one computer can get access to the internet threw the router at any given time.

how about calling ur internet provided and ask them? i have the same problem as u before and until nw..my router cannot be use becasue my IP dun support it.

Update:
My friend just called me saying that I need to figure out the problem ASAP. They can't connect the computers via lan. It seems that only one can be running through the router at any one time.

Does he have DHCP enabled on the router and set to automatic on the computers?

also make sure the router is handing out more than one IP address. That is another common mistake when dealing with this problem.
