pc freezing when playing WoW

Ok, my pc somehow got it in its head to jsut freeze randomly while playing this game. I've reinstalled the game already, reinstalled the video card drivers. I even had prime95 running for 7 hours to see if the cpu way maybe overheating. (it didnt overheat) but neither of this seems to have solved the problem.

the funny (well,.. more annoying than funny) thing is, soemtimes it works fine for 2 hours or so, and sometimes it decides to freeze after jsut a few minutes. :|

with freeze I mean, the screen freezes, and the sound goes into a high pitched beep. nothing is responding except the power/reset button.

any ideas on what it could be? for some reason it only happened on WoW yet. rainbow six vegas, Bioshock, CoD4 demo, IL2 1946, SH3 and 4 all seem to run fine, and they never froze so far.

well im not sure but maybe the game cant run properly with 4 cores running,Isnt there a way to set your processor just to use one core during WOW?

I believe WoW had some problems with the AMD dual core optimizer, not your situation I know, but nevakonaza might be onto something, try setting the affinity to one core. Other than that I can only advise you to check the event viewer, right click my computer < manage < event viewer, and check both application and system logs for any insight. The error may well simply give away the problem, it could also be cryptic needing some googling. Hopefully it doesn't simply point out the faulting app and give some non-sensible error code.

tried that after I read Nevakonaza's reply... it didnt crash so far (affinity to core 0 only) so I'll see if that might have solved it :)

ok... it crashed again.. :(

I took out my Audigy 4 now, and used the 'onboard?' sound of the motherboard. (Analog Devices, SoundMax) and I got a 7 - 20fps increase in WoW (wich I frankly, find pretty odd) and it didnt crash so far (and that last thing doesnt say much I gues :x )

Is the audigy 4 old? If it's not it could just be be the high quality sound pulling performance down, it will do that. Keep us updated. as with all computer related problems, there could be a thousand different causes... :(

well, I got the idea of pulling out the Audigy card, because the sound crashed twice when WoW was only running on 1 core. the sound went to a constant high pitched beep, while the game remained playable. well, its a matter of trail and error now I gues, all i can do is sit and wait/see if it crashes again

On the wow forums people are crashing since they added the new patch for voice chat. They changed how sounds are being done, you might want to check over there.
