My local Gamestation does Pre-owned Ps3s (The older fat type)Some 40Gb models,Some 80Gb models quite cheap...one i seen was only £99 for the 40Gb model.

Ive been wanting to pick up a PS3 for ages now for Blu-Ray and games like GTA IV to run properly but dont really want to splash out £249 for a brand new PS3 as i use my Pc for main gaming.

Would you guys think it would be okay to pick up a used PS3?...Or is it risky like it would be for a used 360?..i heard alot of pre-owned 360s are actually online banned or been messed around with..is it possible for the previus user to have got the PS3 online banned...or does it now work that way for the PS3?

They come with a full 28 day guarantee on all pre-owned products,Not long i know...but i suppose its long enough for any faults to show up.

What ya think my friends?

You risk dedicating yourself to hating the godliness of Xbox 360...

If you're heartset on PS3, the only reason they're being sold is because Xbox's sales are always going up.

:D trust me ive also thought about getting the 360,But like i said i want something cheap...The pre-owned PS3s are at £99,There are some 360S (The fat type) at £79.99 BUT again im concearned that it could -
1.Be online banned
2.Have overheating problems

And not only that id have to pay to play online. which i dont want,Im already paying £37.00 a month for my 20Mb broadband.

Id prefer to just buy a PS3 because theyre less prone to fail and the online is free...

i would never buy a pre-owned first generation 360.. that's almost a guaranteed to RRoD, plus no three year warranty. i just grabbed a brand new first generation arcade for $150, they're being phased out so you can get them very reasonable. if you're after the 360 look around for those, they use the newer "jasper" design which has a much lower failure rate. also you'll be getting a 3 year warranty.

PS3 on the other hand i think you'd be safe with buying a preowned one. if you aren't into the xbox exclusive titles, than PS3 is really the better choice overall.

God, I hope you mean 20GB....

can you download game demos off the ps3 network like you can on the 360?

oh yeah, tons of demos and other gaming related content. Add ons, videos, etc. I've even rented a few movies from their store. the ps3 is the bomb, I love it. I dont see any problem with buying one used.

It's easy to upgrade the HD too, if needed. I've gotta a 500 gig in mine lol. Just takes a standard laptop drive.

wow :P

I didnt know that, thats good to know too.

I cant see me needing all that much space though, only time will tell i suppose. :)

A 40 gig can actually fill up quickly. Depends on the amount of games and other content you store on the drive. You can stream media from your PC to the console, so you wouldn't really need storage for music and whatnot. It's pretty sweet. Only thing that really sucks is the internet browser. Oh don't forget it has a folding client as well.

Is the built in Wireless good on the PS3?

As for the internet browser,I probably wouldnt use it anyway :)

As far as reliability and ease of setup, yeah, it's good. I've never had to troubleshoot any issues with it. It's always on and always works, unlike some of the PoS PC wireless adapters I've dealt with.

Brilliant,Well my minds settled then PS3 it is!

Im getting GTA IV for it because i never did complete it on Pc and i know on the PS3 version it will run nice.

What other games do you lot recommend?

Mep916 what do you mean by ( folding client ):)

Wiki said:
Folding@home is the most powerful distributed computing cluster in the world, according to Guinness,[2] and one of the world's largest distributed computing projects.[3] The goal of the project is "to understand protein folding, misfolding, and related diseases."[4]

Accurate simulations of protein folding and misfolding enable the scientific community to better understand the development of many diseases, including sickle-cell disease (drepanocytosis), Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Bovine spongiform encephalopathy, cancer, Huntington's disease, cystic fibrosis, osteogenesis imperfecta, alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency, and other aggregation-related diseases.[5] More fundamentally, understanding the process of protein folding — how biological molecules assemble themselves into a functional state — is one of the outstanding problems of molecular biology. So far, the Folding@home project has successfully simulated folding in the 1.5 millisecond range[6] — which is a simulation thousands of times longer than it was previously thought possible to model.

Nope 20mb....that price on their site is bull,

http://shop.virginmedia.com/broadband/up-to-20mb.html

Looks like il get a PS3 then,The free online is a big bones because there wont be any additional costs...just hope they have some in stock!

Damn have you contacted them to ask why? We don't pay as much as you do for 50mb broadband with virgin (may be because it is part of a phone/tv package though)

You have given me a very good idea here though shane, so thanks, I'm thinking I'm going to do the same as you. I noticed the other day that they are selling used PS3's + 2 games for ~£110 at my Gamestation up here. Going to get saving :D

I hear many people play MAG on ps3. One of my friends is playing it without stopping lol. I did try it and yes, it's really good game. You can look into that game. :)
