processor instalation problem

:confused: I just received a barebones kit in the mail and went to put the processor in and the lever won't close and secure the procesor to the mobo. According to the mobo the processor is compatible and it slides right in with the lever up at 90 degrees. I am working with Soyo mobo SY KT600 Dragon Plus and an AMD Athlon 2800+ processor the mobo has socket 462 . I have double checked pin one position and have the processor in the only way it fits, but still the lever wont go down. I don't want to apply too much pressure and break, or bend the pins. Any suggestions

In my experience, you should only mess around with things like that when the components warranty has run out.
