Looking through a box I found my old slim playstation 2. Unfortunately, what I didnt find was the power adaptor for it. The closest thing I can find is a 9v 500mA one. Does anyone with electrical knowledge know if I should try this on the ps2? I hate to have to pay for anther adaptor.

hmm should work since the normal one is 8.5v - 565mA.

I would give, but dont blame me if it dont work.

That adapter wont work.

The voltage has to be exactly the same. If the original one was 8.5, the new one needs to be 8.5.

The ampere rating doesn't need to be the same, but needs to be at least as high as the original one. Needs to be 565+

And as TOO said, the polarity needs to be the same.

If you use the 9v adapter, it may work for a while, but there's a good chance your ps2 wont last very long.

Radioshack sells universal ones, with switchable voltages for cheap.

Bit of an update, I plugged it all in and nothing happened, again, and again, and again. I Looked over and I realized I had forgoten to plug the adapter into the wall. :duh:

So then the power button is glowing red, I click it and it glows green for about 1 second and then goes black, then back to red. If I click it again, it does the same thing.

Every once in a while it will glow bright green and then get soft green and stay green untill I hit the power button again. But while its green, nothing happens on the screen, the cd doesnt spin, nothing.

Suggestions?

Purchase? Bah-humbug. Why buy when I dont even know if the ps2 even works anymore.

Tried a couple of things (and learned some along the way).

Using the adapter I found all by itself, it gets results like those stated, but I figured out which goes to which. Undervolting does the red, green, black, red thing. Over volting while under mA-ing does the green thing.

What was I to do? Combine them of cource! So I undervolted while over mA-ing. I found a 7.5volt 3amp adapter and wired that sucker in. Worked, and I was rewarded with a quick game of guitar hero2.

Only problem now, Im missing the power supply to my dvd player.

Thanks everyone!
